August 27, 1943 - November 10, 2015
Donald George Benzing, was born August 27th, 1943 in Passaic, NJ to the late George and Helen Benzing. He departed this life peacefully in his home on November, 10th 2015. He was proceeded in death by his sister Joan Van-Acker, his niece Lynn Hoskins and his beloved son Joseph John Benzing. When Don was just a teenager his family moved from New Jersey and he had lived in Miami ever since. He raised his daughter Marylee and his son Joey as a single Dad and with the help of his family he was able to provide a loving and stable home for them. Through his dedication and discipline, he supported them in their development in becoming adults and supporting their families as well. Don loved his children and he especially enjoyed the perks that came from being a grandfather. Nothing made him prouder than being a witness to each child's accomplishments when it came to graduations, recitals and so on. Don also prided himself in being a loyal and trustworthy employee who worked many years at United Insulation and then went on to become a courier for over 25 years for International Visa. At work he was professional, courteous and well liked by all. Besides being such a hard worker, more than anything Don had a passion for music and poetry. He loved to write songs and poems and share them with friends, family or any pretty lady who wanted to listen. He was a flirt, who was always smiling and happy whenever he could share a song with anyone. He joined a rock n roll band in the 70's and played bass guitar in local bars and parties throughout South, Fl. Don also had his own recording company called Cellenium records and in his spare time, he helped record and support other artists who were pursuing their dreams in the entertainment industry. He relished the excitement that came from creating music and it brought him great joy and many lifetime friends. These friends stayed connected with him over the years and many of them recall how he had an open door policy when it came to helping them find jobs or have a place to stay until they could get back on their feet. They also can't forget how he was always available to have a conversation or share some wit or wisdom with them over a cup of coffee at one of his many favorite diners. These moments of his love and outpouring of support will stay with them as well as his family forever. He is cherished in memory by his daughter Mary Lee Benzing, Granddaughter Lyric Leigh Benzing and Great Grandson Nathaniel Joseph. His Grandsons, Bryant and Steven Benzing. Nieces, Marian Schnap & Family, Barbara Dyshuk & Family, Nephews, Rick Van Acker & Family, Fred Van Acker & Family, as well as all of his extended family and friends.
