Alberto Fernandez
October 20, 1950 – June 25, 2026
"Alberto believed that the best way to tell someone you loved them was simply to show up."
Alberto Fernandez was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose life was defined not by recognition or possessions, but by quiet acts of love, unwavering integrity, and a servant's heart. His greatest joy was caring for those he loved, and his legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched.
Born on October 20, 1950, in Lima, Peru, Alberto spent much of his childhood in Chimbote. The fourth of eight siblings, he grew up surrounded by family, neighborhood friends, and the simple joys of childhood. Living just a few houses from Señor de los Milagros Church, he learned the value of family, perseverance, and hard work. As a young man, he worked beside his father and siblings in the family tailor shop, where he developed the creativity, discipline, and willingness to help others that shaped the rest of his life. To his siblings he was "Tito," and to many childhood friends, "El Chino."

On November 15, 1975, Alberto married Lucy, and together they built the family that became the center of his life. Although their marriage later ended, their friendship and mutual respect endured. They remained united in raising Larry and Connie with love, stability, and an unwavering commitment to family.
At 42, Alberto immigrated to the United States seeking greater opportunities for his family. Despite the challenges of a new language and starting over, he quietly built a life in South Florida through humility, perseverance, and honest work.

Those who knew Alberto remember his warm smile, gentle spirit, quiet humor, and dependable character. He believed the right path was always worth taking, even when it was the harder one. He never sought shortcuts or compromised his values. Whether repairing something around the house, building planter boxes, restoring furniture, creating toys from everyday materials, or tending the yard, Alberto found joy in serving others with his hands.

His grandchildren—Jade, Jael, Emberly, Caleb, and Rachel—were among the greatest joys of his life. Known lovingly as Papa Berto and Papa Beto, he delighted in preparing breakfast and favorite meals simply to see their smiles. He treasured Sunday mornings with Larry, coffee after school drop-offs, family vacations, Christmas celebrations, documentaries, action movies, and every opportunity to have everyone together. For Alberto, love was never complicated—it was showing up.

He carried Peru in his heart. He loved ceviche, salsa and bachata—especially La Sonora Matancera and El Gran Combo—soccer, black coffee with sugar, the beach, gardening, and dreamed of fishing again in Chimbote. Quietly generous, he often gave to those in need without expecting anything in return.
One of Alberto's greatest gifts to his children was introducing them to God's Word. During blackouts in Peru, he gathered the family by candlelight to read Bible stories, teaching them to love one another and remain united. During his final illness, Alberto placed his trust in Jesus Christ as his Savior, leaving his family the enduring hope of eternal life.

Alberto is lovingly remembered by his children, Larry Fernandez and Connie Gordon; his cherished grandchildren, Jade, Jael, Emberly, Caleb, and Rachel; his brothers and sisters; extended family throughout Peru, Argentina, and the United States; and many dear friends.

His family will remember him not simply for what he did, but for the way he lived—with love in action, integrity without compromise, and a heart that faithfully served others.

Alberto didn't just speak about love—he lived it every single day. Though we grieve his absence, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ and look forward to the day we will be reunited with him.
