"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. — 2 Corinthians 3:17
Like the butterfly that emerges from its cocoon, Anita Christy Denson's life was a journey of transformation, beauty, and purpose — and now she has taken flight into the eternal embrace of her Creator.
Anita was born on April 20, 1989, in Miami, Florida, a vibrant soul from the very start. She was the beloved daughter of Spencer Williams and the late Patricia Ann Denson, and the cherished sister to Angel-Selena Denson, Tracey Williams, Ashley Clark, and Ashanta Wright. Her love was shared with a wide circle of family — two grandmothers, Mary Williams and Myrtice Wilcox Denson; three aunts, Margaret Ann Denson, Tina Williams, and Carolyn Albritton; and two uncles, Berry U. Denson and Victor Williams. She now joins in peace her mother and her grandfather, Berry Denson Sr.
From a young age, Anita carried an unshakable curiosity and a deep love of learning. She graduated from the Public Service Academy of William H. Turner Technical Arts High School in 2007, then set her sights on higher education at Florida A&M University—proudly becoming a Rattler. Her time at FAMU was one of the brightest chapters of her life. She thrived in the vibrant campus community, built lifelong friendships, and embraced the school's rich tradition of "Excellence with Caring". In 2011, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science, a degree that reflected her passion for advocacy, justice, and making a difference in the lives of others.
Her career path reflected her heart for service and leadership, with roles at the American College of Rheumatology as a Specialist ARP Governance, KIPP College Preparatory Public Schools as a Development Associate, and the Morehouse School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics as a Program Manager.
Anita was more than her accomplishments — she was a giver, a volunteer, and a voice for others. In Atlanta, she poured her energy into her community as an Advisory Board Member at the My World: Global Citizenship for Teens program, A member of the Social Wellness for Women; The Lines and Binds Book Club and The Masterclass-Style writing for Storytelling.
Books were Anita's lifelong companions. From her middle school years to adulthood, she built a treasured collection — so many that when she moved to college, she brought a trunk full to Tallahassee. She loved painting, drawing, writing short stories, listening to music, traveling the world, and attending concerts and festivals. And if you knew Anita, you knew her favorite actor, without question, was Leonardo DiCaprio.
Her life was a story — one filled with love, creativity, service, and joy, but also with challenges she faced with unshakable courage. She endured hardships in her early life, yet she rose above them with grace, strength, and determination. Anita was a survivor in every sense of the word — using her resilience to fuel her compassion for others and her passion for living fully. And while her earthly chapter has closed far too soon, her spirit continues to inspire, reminding us to live fully, give generously, and never stop chasing beauty, like a butterfly on the wind.
