James Harold Jengo

James H. Jengo (Jim), was born June 14, 1928 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Agnes and John Jengo. Jim was very musical in grammar school, and was the sole member of the orchestra. He always had a harmonica with him. He played the bugle and the clarinet in the high school band. He played the accordion for the schools graduations and at Christmas events during the Holidays, He would go to each classroom and play Christmas Carols. Jim was a star Boy Scout, when he was in the Boy Scouts, and He became the head of all the Scout Troops in Hudson County NJ. At age 12 years old, at Boys Scout camp, he took a group on a hike and found his way back to camp by the astrological positioning of the stars. Jim was also in the Sea Scout. Jim later took courses at the NY Planetarium and further developed his skills for navigation by the stars for when he was sailing. At a very young age James H. Jengo was employed by Progress Photo Engraving in Jersey City, NJ. James H. Jengo was a graduate of Seten Hall University. As a graduate he founded Jengo Etch-N-Grave, and was self-employed as a Metal Engraver in New York. When Jim was 19 years old, a representative of the Chinese Government, Lin-Yu Tang, hired Jim to develop the engraving process to engrave the bars of the first Chinese typewriter. James H. Jengo joined the Navy and served in WWII. As a Seaman, Jim, engraved a plaque for the Lord High Mayor of South End England, which the Skipper of the USS Mindoro presents on occasions, when he visits the port. Jim was a very innovative, honest, and trusting person. He designed and sold reasonably priced engraving machines, and registered 17 United States patents. Addition, he designed a Japanese printing press to add color, which brought him royalties whenever a Shiki press was sold. Jim did engravings for many large cosmetic firms, such as Este Lauder, Revlon etc. Jim also did many etchings for a famous French engraver Salvador Dali, and would discuss with the artist the benefits of etching. Dali wanted to know a more profitable way to use his art. Jim did projects for the U.S. government, and party favors for Rose Kennedy. Jim was asked to go to Washington DC to engrave the plates for the new U.S. currency, but did not want to spend six months in Washington so he refused. Jengo, James passed peacefully at in on September 13th, 2013. James Jengo will be deeply missed by wife Nora, family and host of friends. Resting at the Wilcox Family Funeral Home.
