John W. Charley Obituary
On Monday, March 1st, 2021, John Wesley Charley, a loving husband, passed away from
this life at age 86.
Mr. Charley was born January 31st, 1935 in Woodford, South Carolina. Mr. Charley moved
to south Florida where he worked as a Construction Laborer. In 1965 he married Audrey
"Tish" Charley whom he met in sunny Miami, Florida, where they resided together until his
passing.
"Charles" or "Anyhow", as his wife Audrey interchangeably nicknamed him, loved the Lord
and demonstrated a strong faith in God and he taught his family likewise. A prayer spoken
with his strong baritone voice was always something to look forward to at the dinner table
and every family gathering he was in attendance. Mr. Charley was a humble, generous, and
gracious man to everyone who knew him. He enjoyed listening to hymns, spiritual music,
and was always up for a good laugh. He liked to travel and often spent time during his
young age in the Bahamas, Key West, and New York while working jobs and for leisure time.
A Patriarch in his own right; among the men in his family, "Uncle Charles" or "Uncle Son"
was the lead example to follow. Retiring in 1992, Mr. Charley lived his retired years at his
home in Miami with Audrey and their Bichon Frise dog, Polo, whom he dearly loved to spoil
with "table food" and take outside for walks.
Mr. Charley was preceded in death by his father, Beauford, and his mother, Agnes. He is
survived by his wife Audrey Latisha Charley; Sister-In-Law Vernay Sims-Cox; his Nephews,
John Jones, Marlo Green, and Christopher Simmonds, Sr.; Great Nephews- James Derek
Times, III and Joshua Jones; Nieces Emma-Lee Kelly, Greta Simmonds & Vernette Bouvie
Green; Great Nieces Ann & Angela Kelly, Sharonda Garcia & Latoria V. Pearson, Krista &
Christopher Simmonds, Jr.; along with a host of cousins, friends, and young family
members.
