Raymond George Turkson, (80) resident of Miami Lakes, FL passed away peacefully
September 14th, 2023, in The Veterans Hospital of Miami, FL. Raymond was a former resident of West Wyoming, PA for 71 years. He graduated from West Wyoming High School class of 1961 where he played football, basketball, and baseball and met the love of his life, Marion. He proudly served as a Military Policeman in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he earned the status of expert rifleman. He then completed his remaining service in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
Raymond attended West Side Career and Technical School where he obtained a degree in Mechanical Drafting. He worked as a Draftsman for the Luzerne County Courthouse, as well as providing security services to the public for many years. He continued his quest for knowledge as he completed many automotive classes and later attended Luzerne County Community College studying electronics.
Ray had a profound love for the outdoors and could usually be found hunting, fishing, and golfing with his father, brother, and nephews. He was also a sports fanatic and an avid Eagles and Phillies fan. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, passing on his passion for the outdoors and sports.
Ray's kindness, inner strength, and selflessness towards others can be seen as an inspiration. He was always willing to lend a hand, especially if it involved him being under the hood of a car. Most of all, he loved his family and always put them first. He loved spending time with his wife, listening to country music, and dancing.
Raymond was a lifelong devout Catholic and member of Our Lady
of Sorrows, now St. Monica Parish, in West Wyoming, PA, and Our Lady of Lakes Church of Miami Lakes, FL.
Raymond was predeceased by his parents Paul Turkson Sr. Mary (Kutyana)Turkson and his brother Paul Turkson Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Marion (Michaels) Turkson, with whom he shared a remarkable partnership built on faith, devotion, and love. Their extraordinary dedication to each other, God and family leaves behind a profound legacy that will be etched in the hearts of those who survived him forever.
In addition to his wife Marion, Raymond is also survived by his daughters, Tina (Marc) Davidoff, Robbinsville, NJ. Raeann (Michael) Buonsante, Naples FL, Andrea (Michael) Gonzalez Miami Lakes, FL., and six grandchildren he loved dearly Gaetano and Juliana Buonsante, Steven and Alexa Davidoff, and Aviana and Daniel Gonzalez.
Raymond is also survived by five sisters, Barbara Molesky, Lorraine Sokoloski, Pauline Solinski, Cynthia Hoffman, and Karen Ostroskie, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a mass that will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, starting at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Lakes Catholic Church located at 15801 NW 67th Ave, Miami Lakes, FL 33014.
Following the Mass, Raymond will be laid to rest with a full Military Service at South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 FL-7, Lake Worth, FL 33449.
A private family viewing will be held on Monday, September 25, 2023.
