On March 25th, 2026, Sarala Mathen (77 years old), beloved mother and grandmother, went home to be with the Lord. She is survived by her son, Thomas (Bobby) Mathew, his wife, Sonia Mathew, and her grandchildren, Isaiah and Ava.

Sarala Mathen was born on August 17th, 1948, in Thiruvilla, Kerala, India, to V.I. Ipe Mathen and Aleyamma Mathen. She was their only daughter and the cherished sister of her three brothers: Mohan, Soman, and Rajan Mathen. She completed most of her schooling in India. In 1979, she came to the United States and worked various retail jobs before becoming a bank teller. She was blessed with her son, Thomas (Bobby) Mathew, in 1989 and later retired in 2013.

Sarala was an active member of St. Thomas Indian Orthodox Church of South Florida and was always one of the first to arrive for Qurbana on Sundays. Her hobbies included cooking, spending time with her church friends, and keeping up with her favorite TV shows on Asianet.

Sarala Mathen was known for her kind heart and remarkable strength. She raised her son as a single mother, and no matter what challenges she faced, she always put her faith in God and carried a smile. She believed deeply in kindness and doing what was right. No matter the situation, Sarala was known for her warm smile and her gentle reminder to trust in God. Even after her stroke, she continued to bring joy to others with her humor. She will be truly missed and forever remembered by all whose lives she touched.
